annie

Isn't she just lovely? Anne Hathaway graced the pages of Vogue magazine this November. This is just a sampling of what her photo shoot entailed. The epitome of glamor and poise, Anne Hathaway is what I like to call an actual actress versus the ever so sought after famous celebrity. She seems to come completely out of her shell in her new movie Love and Other Drugs (see below ;) which as someone who has watched her since the era of the Princess Diaries films I am so excited to see. But what may even be greater is what is to come. Like all of us young twenty-somethings, the years ahead of plentiful.

So, what's next?

PS...I loved the movie! So cute. It's such a great date movie. You'll laugh, cry, laugh, and wish nothing but great things for the two main characters

other drugs

Watch this. Go see it. It's Anne Hathaway's new movie with cutie pie Jake Gyllenhaal. My mom and I are planning on going to see this tomorrow, on Thanksgiving (it's kind of a tradition to go to the movies on Thanksgiving, don't ask. We are also having Chinese food. Rockin' the boat.).

I like the idea of testing what love is. And I adore the idea that love comes around exactly when you least expect it. Keeps us guessing.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted on how it is. But doesn't the trailer just look fun, funny, and real?!

meet me at boneshakers

my dad has owned a harley-davidson motorcycle ever since i was born. i've been around them and ridden them since the beginning. (i used to be taken to cheerleading practice, in seventh grade, on the back of my dad's bike...really.)

thus, it should come as no surprise that this season's infatuation with motorcycle boots has got me looking for the perfect pair.
These beauties are from JCrew. I love the brown as an alternative to the anticipated black.

Classic black. These Frye boots will look very familiar to some, they are quite popular in their own right. In this dark black and accented with tasteful studs they certainly fit the kick butt bill of a motorcycle boot.

The original. The best. These babies are legit motorcycle boots from Harley Davidson. Not only can you wear these on the back of a bike, but with skinny jeans, on a night out, or as an alternative to any boot outfit.

Aren't these killer? Do you have any favorites to share?

(PS...If you're nervous about rockin' motorcycle boots, here are some suggestions: consider these boots just like any other, feel free to dress them up or keep it casual. Spice it up with hard edge accents: leather jacket, silver jewelry, aviator sunglasses. Also, increase the feminine with ruffles, glitters, short hemlines. These boots are much more functional than you may think!!)

mamma c

meet my mom. ain't she cute? this is us at my uva graduation. she is my best friend and a great person to be around. i insist that all my friends meet and love her and that is how she gained the nickname "mamma c" it's what my friends call her.

she is reading real simple magazine, this december issue, and she is falling in love with Chanel No. 5! I am so proud. I've been wearing Chanel's younger version Coco for years now and love it. One of my BFF's says it smells so much like "me" that whenever she smells it she's like "WHERE IS MARY?"

Let's just say I'm so impressed with my ever so cool mother.

Chanel.
Rock on.

my video choice of the week

this is my new favorite song of the week. i just love it. i think the line "tell me what you want from me" resonates a little too close to home for me! ;) so good. and it's the title song to a new movie i want to see...Love and Other Drugs...keep posted for my "i love annie" post

enjoy!

miss watson

in lieu of the opening of the final harry potter movie, i figured it was time to pay some homage to the cast. well really to emma watson. she is so lovely. so british. so chic. her new pixie cut is the biggest thing to hit fashion. she certainly is turning over a new page...

miss watson is gracing the covers of uk vogue and marie claire for the month of december. not to mention she is also a student at acclaimed ivy league Brown University. beauty and brains.

a little bit of the new hairdo in the press...

think you could ever go this short?

thankful giving

I just love Thanksgiving. It involves all that is right with the world--family, friends, fellowship, food, and fashion (the five F's). I secretly hope that one day my Thanksgiving table will be large and beautiful like this one above from Pottery Barn. I can just see my friends running around the kitchen and all the men on the couch watching a football game.

Aren't these just wonderful? Maybe it would be weird to eat turkey off a turkey plate, but I think otherwise. Every year I long for these plates..and one day I will have them!

The colors of fall are my favorite. Metallics are always in vogue and I love the idea of using lots of gold and tones of brown to accent the food and fun of Thanksgiving. Tonal shades are so much better than flat colors and a great way to add in festive details.

So, what does your Thanksgiving table look like?

bonjour

I was watching Oprah the other day for the reunion of the cast of The Color Purple and Whoopi Goldberg was the first castmember on. As soon as she came on Oprah asked her about her very chic maroon heels. The first concern should be of course, the fact that Whoopi was in heels which happens about as often as me going out in public without shoes period. She said they were from a shoe company called Unusual Choice, a company her mother liked.

These red ones are my TOTAL favorites. How totally adorable, right? They are called Lady Bow. Perfect.
Perhaps I'll adopt them one day.

What do you think? Are they unusual enough for you?

what's your secret?

To everyone's "one that got away"...you all know who you are
;)

lumberjack...kinda

Turns out that I bought a denim pencil skirt from the GAP outlet this past summer for a job that fell through so know I have to wear it just because, so I came up with this outfit, a way to feminize the flannel shirt. (And sorry for the photos...the lighting in my house is horrible.)

This is my favorite flannel shirt. It's actually a men's shirt (so if you are lucky enough to have a significant other you can steal his or if you're like me and as single as can be, buy one) that is big in all the right places. I used a red belt to eliminate the boxy quality with the skirt. I saw a friend of mine wear her belt off-centered so I tried that.

I topped it all off with blue tights and my new brown boots (Target!) that I'm trying to break in.

What do you think? Too trendy? Fashion inspiration for some maybe (cough cough Savoy ;)

match made in fashion

Don't you just LOVE this outfit? I want everything here. Even the chickens. They photograph really well. :)

The skirt even has pockets. Perfection.

I absolutely am in love with TOMS Shoes. It's a superb company. For every pair of shoes you buy another pair of shoes gets sent to a child who needs them. Turns out that all most kids need is shoes to prevent major soil-causing foot diseases that can lead to more serious issues. Also, in most developing nations shoes are a part of the school uniform so with your help more kids can get the education they deserve.

And this holiday season TOMS come in all kinds of glitter colors. A perfect addition to jeans or casual wear for the weekend, or try them out with this season's velvet or trouser pants.

These are my pair! I love the gold. I often wear them as my "going out shoe" that way I never have to worry about my feet hurting in heels.

TOMS Glitter also comes in black and silver. Check all the types of TOMS online.

HAPPY SHOPPING!

one love

So I know that Katy Perry isn't the coolest or most avant-garde singer out there, but this video is important. In the time of hate crimes and increased suicides rates among young people, I thought the message was worth putting out there. Well done Katy Perry.

marvelous merriment

It's finally that time of year where the chill is in the air and hot chocolate comes in mugs big enough to swim in. Here at Virginia Beach the cool weather comes a little later and I am so excited to drink hot chocolate...it seems to make everything a little better.

I just saw these in Wal-Mart and am SO stoked. Candy Cane chocolate is like a breath mint and dessert all in one!

My absolutely favorite goodie this time of year is Peppermint ice cream. It looks pretty, and smells yummy. As I told my mom, it's the perfect date dessert...leaves
everyone minty fresh!!

So what goodies start off the holiday season for you?

what would elizabeth do?

This past week Elizabeth Smart started testifying in her trial against her kidnappers eight years ago. My Mom and I were talking about it because Elizabeth is just about my age and her younger sister Mary Katherine who shared a room together is my sister's age. The whole family is amazing in my eyes--the grace, poise, strength, determination, faith--its all there. And yet, behind the perfection, they had this amazingly horrific thing happen. The whole situation made me think about how lucky I am, how the simple things really are everything.

So, Thanksgiving isn't the only time to be thankful. I'm starting early.

What I'm thankful for:
  • My family and their happiness
My wonderful and totally dysfunctional family! Bobby, Laura, Mom, Me, Dad
University of Virginia Commencement 2010
  • My Mom--three years breast cancer free (total remission is in 5! so close!)
  • My Dad has come back from every deployment
  • I got to go to college (UVA 2010)
  • All my friends (R2M, DUAD, The Eye of the Storm)
  • R2M
    Para Coffee
    (photo: Barrie Humphries :)
DUAD
UVA Art History Commencement
(We were reenacting Star Wars...duh)

In the midst of Veterans Day why wait till Thanksgiving to look at what you are thankful for?

knight time

When starting this blog I did not intend to have so many music videos, but this is CRUCIAL. Lacrymosa is the stage name to a lovely girl I went to high school with (so cool!). She graduated from NYU this past May and is now blowing it up in the Big Apple. I just love her and this CD and I am so glad that I can put this song up on the internet some more.

To download a song and to see her Village Voice blog interview.

Enjoy!

this weekend

My mom and I are making a date to see this next Sunday (depending on my work schedule of course)...you should see it too!

remnants of fall

I have been looking for a Breton (or Breton-esque) shirt for months...and here it is at my favorite store (the GAP!) .

Something about these socks makes me want to always have them keeping me warm (GAP, Cozy socks) and only walk around in socks...

shoe haven

FINALLY! A home for all of my shoes. Now for a closet big enough...

("Sarah Storage Towers" ballarddesigns.com)

Savoy Said...

My dear friend Savoy said that she really liked the earlier video ("If I Die Young" by The Band Perry) and I promised to post more. This song is another one of my newer faves. I love the lyrics. Something about the simplicity of love is becoming very appealing....

CB2

I was checking the mail today, discovered that I hadn't gotten the mail yesterday (whoops!), and rummaged through the excess of home magazines that always seem to flood in this time of year. And I found Cb2, the younger, urban, chic version of Crate and Barrel.

(www. CB2.com)

Don't you think your comforter should always match your shower curtain?

Yeah, me too.

This is so on my wish list.

Check out the rest of the magazine and catalog.

SOOOOO GOOD.

never grow up

Toy Story 3 came out to DVD yesterday, and so I thought that I would take the opportunity to write some more (because so many critics and columnists alike have written about this "kids" movie) about why this movie is just so darn good.

I'm 22 years old. I grew up with Toy Story, and then my siblings, 20 and 19, also grew up with Woody and Buzz and with the second installment came Jessie (my Mom's personal favorite). The second one was good. But it was years ago. So how did Toy Story manage to do so well in the third one? Well in my humble opinion, the movie never gave up on the original audience, those who were old enough to see the first one when it came out in 1995 (I was 7) and thought, "What the heck! I'll see the third!"

And the movie followed through. For me at least.

Andy, the boy in the film, is going to college. He grew up just like the rest of us. Just like me. Getting ready to go away to college is starting anew and being able to be whoever you want, away from parents, possible away from old haunts and sometimes away from all things high school. Moving into dorms is putting your life and personality on one side of a room. Some things have to stay home, some come with you, some are thrown away. In Toy Story 3 the big decision is what toys will be saved. About what part of the past will be taken into the future.

For me, her name was Holly. She is a stuffed bear decked in a lovely Christmas dress with her right chest sewn shut due to many surgeries throughout the year. I got her for Christmas the last year I lived in northern Virginia which would have put me in third grade. We became the best of friends. And she was the one I took to college. In fact she stayed all four years and now rests back in my bedroom. She is my Woody.

This movie isn't just about the usual mischief of Woody and his pals. It's about what growing up is about, about moving on and trying to cut the right strings between the past and present. But just as the excitement of growing up hits, the longing for simplicity sets in.

Growing up is a funny thing. Full of ups and downs and good and bad. It's a funny thing.

drizzle

Today is one of those lovely rainy days. I guess its more lovely because I don't have to walk in it, go out in it, and really all I have to do is sit inside and watch it rain through the window because I am still sick and planted on the couch. But I absolutely love the rain. And I always have. I think it all started when I lived in Seattle and the rain was a part of daily life, but the upside to all the rain was all the green and it smelled so good.

If you are not as lucky as I am today and have to go out in the rain, as I will eventually, there are things you can do to make the rain fun and not such a bother. (Of course, the first thing is a positive attitude! Don't let it get you down!)
I love these Hunter boots. They are short so they don't come up as high as most of the rain boots out there, but that works well for me because I could never find rain boots that fit well enough. These solved all my problems! And they keep my feet dry.

This is my umbrella. What is so fabulous is that it is small enough to put in my purse or back pack on those days when you're convinced it will rain at some point, but it is also big enough to cover you when the downpour really does occur.

The one thing I don't have and really, REALLY want is the perfect rain slicker. It seems so hard to find one lined, but not lined in flannel. I don't want it to stick to me, and I want to be able to wear it in the warmer weather. And I'm not sure bright yellow is something I can "grow up" in. Ideas?

And if you are driving in inclement weather...PLEASE drive safe!
