for the trip

it's laugh out loud funny. well i guess it's funny more because it's true than anything else.
yay for my friends! hahaha

what i know for sure

nothing makes you feel quite as small as the pacific ocean. to me it's the superior ocean (it's bluer, the west coast is chic, i don't know, it's kinda fab.) i stood at this cliff above the ocean on the beach of la jolla, california not too long ago, and it was, well, wonderful. and i'm not a big beach person.

as i sit here, looking forlornly at my not so packed suitcases, preparing in 12 hours to board a flight to peace corps training to DC, i can't help but think of that moment and standing on the cliff. on the precipice of change, on the precipice of the ocean.

what i know for sure is the column that oprah winfrey runs in her magazine. last week her show ended, and while i am sure the column and the magazine will continue, i decided to do a little guest appearance in her honor. (love her, ps)

what i know for sure is that life takes a village. sure, we all know that, yes, but sometimes it becomes super apparent. i could never have gotten here, ready to leave for mali, without a full entourage. friends, family, very nice SATO, peace corps, target, apple, REI employees...they all added a little somethin' somethin' to the process. it really makes me believe in the destiny of it all. we are all meant to do something, to be someone. some of you may not be going to the peace corps anytime soon, but by being here, you are part of my peace corps journey. and for that i am thankful. you are my village.

throwing my hands up in the air

i've had a rough day. just one of those days where things just don't seem to be falling in the right places, which kinda stinks since i'm leaving for staging in DC tuesday. so in my happy place, i think i'll just move to disneyland and into minnie's house. i mean it's even landscaped!

plan B would be a good movie and ben and jerry's with my mom.

we'll see which one wins out. ;)

in the meantime...just keep swimming, just keep swimming...

"just be a queen"

ok, so we all are aware that i love glee. really i'm obsessed. this season it has become my favorite show and it's season finale is tonight, just in time for me to see it before i go (i feel like i should write ryan murphy a personal thank you).

this song is perfect. chris colfer is perfect. so the video is quickly becoming a favorite because not only does it make me think and have meaning, but it's something you can move around to.

speaking of a purpose, have you checked this out yet? so inspiring.

rock on glee.

and what would your white shirt say?

of the artists, for the artists

isn't this beautiful? just transport me there please!

well, it seems like it has been a while since there was a little fashion on the blog, and so i thought i'd emerge from the fog of peace corps preparations and delve into this new collection anthropologie is featuring (make sure to watch the artist statements...so cool).
roots tank (my favorite ;)

butterfly tee

ahhh, lovely...

friendship is a large ship

two of my best friends made the trek out to california for beach week, and i dragged them to disneyland! hahah. so for one day we got to act that we are not college graduates, master degree students, and well real adults. i have to say, that for me, it was fabulous...

the rachels. on the tea cups.

my girl crush on katie holmes has been years in the making. years. from dawson creek to batman begins to the kennedys, she remains the super glam girl next door. i still just want to have coffee with her!
isn't the ann taylor shoot the loveliest thing? the pictures just get better and better. ann taylor? YES PLEASE!

wide open

i have a bunch of these "wide open" road pictures from my travels across the country. this particular one is in georgia.
middle of nowhere, texas (pre massive tornado)

arizona (plus the dirty windshield, my bad)

these kinds of road pictures are some of my favorites. they are about the journey, about where the road goes, about all those touchy-feely things people write about in graduation cards. but, it's true, and the pictures are just cool to look at (with the proportion of space to people, and the very nifty narrowing of the road into the horizon).

and nothings says wide open spaces like the song...i mean i walked right into it don't you think?

with the onset of mali and change so close i could touch it, the lyrics seem to hit an extra sweet spot.

what about you? any deep thoughts going through your head this weekend?

my life is one long movie quotation...

well, we've been in the apartment for about a week now and it is finally starting to resemble a place where people live instead of a storage unit with some air mattresses. that is, thanks in most part, due to over a dozen target trips and two long days at ikea. and what would an ikea trip be without constant quotations from (500) Days of Summer? well, in my book, nothing. i mean, who likes strangers in their kitchen? (answer: no one)

speaking of quotations that are taking over my life, have you seen this e-trade commercial? it has added the perfect (and unending) sense of humor to this moving trip. my mom and i use it all the time. it's one of those things that will just never not be funny.
c'mon! what's not to love?

enjoy the clips. happy monday. more road trip pictures still to come!

south of the (north carolina) border

welcome to south of the border! let me show you around...

all the best towns put a little personality into their water tower

how do you say sketchy in spanish?
well, at least there is always pedro. who else can you rely on?
bye border town! onward ho!

tootles

one last thing before we go.

my room all empty...

the extras and the suitcases
hello moving truck

empty parental room

bye house of my high school days!

away we go! to infinity and beyond!

stopped to smell the flowers...

i know, i know, i've been so absent from the blog-world recently! it's been beyond crazy over at my end. the last two weeks have been spent moving across country (i am now a resident of san diego) and helping my mom decorate our new apartment (budding interior designer if I do say so myself) and amidst it all i had a birthday wednesday. crazysauce! ask me anything about the local target, bed bath and beyond, or wal-mart and i am so all over it! it's been really awesome and the space is starting to look really put together. and as my time opens up expect to hear more from me. i have TONS of pictures of the road trip across to share, new pictures of the apartment will be coming too i hope.

in the meantime, i hope that you are getting the chance to stop and smell the flowers and enjoy all the wonders of the beginning of summer.

talk to you soon (promise!)
